Dambe is a form of boxing practiced by the Hausa people of West Africa. The Tradition used to be dominated mainly by the butcher caste groups. It was also traditionally practiced as a rite of passage for males and also for the men to get ready for war as many of the techniques and terminology allude to warfare.
Today, it has become a sport as companies of boxers travel through the traditional Hausa homelands of Northern Nigeria, Southern Niger and Southwestern Chad, performing outdoor matches accompanied by a ceremony.
